Polydextrose

Why

Polydextrose fills and moisturizes! Oh, I think we need to explain a little more here. Polydextrose is a synthetic compound made from citric acid, sorbitol and glucose and it is used in foods as a filler and humectant. In other words, it serves as a structuring agent in foods, and through its ability to bind water, the substance prevents foods from drying out. Polydextrose itself does not taste really sweet. However, it has similar properties to sugar but without the effects on blood sugar levels and the body does not need insulin to utilize polydextrose.

Polydextrose has the FDA GRAS-status and no specific ADI has been assigned.
