Plant fibers from agave, chicory, and wheat? Exactly – pure plant power that really packs a punch!

Dietary fibers play a central role in your gut health, digestion, and even in regulating your blood sugar levels. In this article, you will learn why dietary fibers are indispensable for your body – and how you can easily integrate them into your daily life with NEOH.

  • Dietary fibers stimulate your digestion.

  • They cause blood sugar to rise more slowly, reduce the risk of metabolic problems, elevated cholesterol levels, and other diseases.

  • Dietary fibers help you feel full faster because they act as volume builders in the stomach.

  • A NEOH bar covers on average a quarter of your daily fiber needs.

What are dietary fibers?

Dietary fibers are food components that our body cannot or can only partially digest. That sounds like they are unnecessary – but they are definitely not! Dietary fibers have a very central function in the body because they keep your digestive tract moving.

They come almost exclusively from plant-based foods such as whole grains, nuts, fruits, vegetables, seeds, and legumes. They have relatively few calories with 2 kcal per gram compared to other macronutrients like fat with 9 kcal/g or carbohydrates and protein with 4 kcal/g.

🔎 Let's take a look at how many dietary fibers are contained in different foods (per 100g). The following overview shows you the comparison from real fiber bombs to foods that contain hardly any:

  • Chia seeds: 35g
  • Oat flakes: 15g
  • Almonds: 14g
  • Whole grain bread: 7g
  • Raspberries: 5g
  • Cornflakes: 5g
  • Carrots: 3g
  • Apple: 2.4g
  • cooked potatoes: 1.5g
  • 1 glass of clear apple juice: 0.1g
  • white rice: 0.4g

For comparison: The NEOH Coconut Bar provides an impressive 35g/100g of fiber!

We – at NEOH – rely on plant fibers – among others from agave, chicory, corn, and wheat – that are well tolerated and ideal for integration into sweets.

Plant fibers – why suddenly fiber? Fiber is also called plant fiber because it comes from the solid cell wall components of plants – the fibers that give plants structure and stability. Although they provide no energy because they are largely indigestible, they do great things in your digestive system. Curious why fiber is a real gamechanger? Keep reading, we have the answers!

How is fiber classified?

Fiber is divided into two main categories.

  1. Soluble fiber
  2. Insoluble fiber

Well, soluble fibers have the ability to bind water and gel. They act like little sponges. They absorb water and turn into a soft, gel-like mass that moves gently through the intestines.

Insoluble fiber, on the other hand, binds less water, promotes bowel movement by speeding up transit time in the large intestine, and keeps your digestion running smoothly.

Your gut microbiome, the community of all good gut bacteria, breaks down fiber in the large intestine, leading to the formation of beneficial short-chain fatty acids. These have anti-inflammatory effects and promote your gut health.

So you need both types of fiber to benefit from both effects. – How great that NEOH products contain both categories! 😎

Why is fiber important for your body?

Fiber is more than just roughage. It has great preventive potential that you shouldn't leave unused! Insoluble fibers, found for example in corn and wheat, affect the time food stays in the stomach and intestines. They positively influence bowel movements and help prevent constipation.

Soluble fibers, like those found in agave and chicory, help you feel full longer – a natural appetite suppressant. Another bonus: soluble fibers form a gel in the intestines that slows the absorption of sugar and fat into the blood. This prevents your blood sugar from rising too sharply. Perfect for preventing cravings. And this is exactly where NEOH comes in! Your cholesterol levels also benefit, as soluble fibers bind bile acids in the intestines. This means less cholesterol enters the bloodstream – a plus for your cardiovascular system.

At the same time, fiber affects the glycemic index (GI) of foods. The GI shows how much a food raises blood sugar after eating. Foods with a high GI cause blood sugar to spike quickly, which can lead to energy peaks and cravings, while products with a low GI significantly reduce this effect. That’s why NEOH specifically uses soluble fibers from agave and chicory, which have a low GI and help maintain a steady blood sugar curve. This way, you benefit from both better satiety and more stable blood sugar levels.

💡Good to know:

Studies show that people who eat a lot of fiber have a lower risk of heart disease, stroke, type 2 diabetes, obesity, and certain types of cancer. (Source: German Nutrition Society, 2022)

How much fiber should you eat daily?

The German Nutrition Society (DGE) recommends that adults consume at least 30g of fiber per day – ideally with enough fluids, as fiber binds water and swells in the intestines, helping you feel full longer and supporting digestion.
So: Don’t forget to drink plenty of fluids! Fiber needs liquid to swell in the gut – it absorbs water, increases in volume, and helps get your digestion moving.

Now let’s take a closer look at how much fiber is in NEOH products! NEOH products give you a real fiber boost. With one bar, you can cover a large part of your daily needs!

What happens if you eat too little fiber?

If you consume too little fiber, you miss out on many health benefits it offers. Without enough fiber, your blood sugar levels can more easily become unbalanced. This can lead to fluctuations that manifest as fatigue, weakness, or lack of energy. Your digestion can also become sluggish, increasing the risk of constipation. Furthermore, too little fiber can strain your cardiovascular system. Fiber helps regulate cholesterol levels by binding excess cholesterol in the gut and promoting its excretion. Without this effect, your heart and circulation can be negatively affected in the long term.

With NEOH, you can easily integrate fiber into your daily routine!

As you can see, fiber is anything but a burden – it’s your daily dose of plant power. With NEOH, you can easily bring these benefits into your daily routine and provide your body with what it needs: energy, balance, and enjoyment – all without sacrifice! 🍫
